Homestay Chiang Rai was a blessing. The homestay is just out of the centre of Chiang Rai, about five minutes by car. Dutch owner Toony brings you to town if you like. This is a free of charge service. Breakfast is served between 7.30 and 10.30 am. Rooms are spotless clean. Very helpfull staff. Toonie rents mountainbikes and scooters for a reasonable price. Homestay Chiang Rai has a perfect kitchen for afternoon snacks and dinner, cooked by Phaet, the Thai wife of Toonie. All meals are served at the swimmingpool. I will definitely go back to this homestay. Wendy, Bibi & Edwin The Netherlands |

What a find! This lovely, meticulously maintained "guest house" is just outside Chiang Rai, and I'm so pleased we found it! I stayed here with my two adult daughters at the end of December, 2011 and couldn't have been more happy with the accommodations. Comfortable, clean, and spacious...with a great bathroom. And, the other guests staying there were nice (one from Ireland, two from Denmark, two from England.), too! And because of its location, one feels the "real" Thailand. Breakfast, accompanied always with good, fresh fruit, was included in the price, so we started our days well-nourished and happy, having eaten in the open air patio. Being outside the city posed no problem because Tony offers one free ride per day into town. We used tuk-tuks for the return trip. And until you've taken a tuk-tuk that distance, you can't say you've really been on one! Be sure to visit the night market...while smaller than what you'll experience in Chiang Mai, it's got a great assortment of stalls and there's a greater proportion of interesting things made by the various hill tribes than elsewhere in Thailand. . .and it's less crowded! Bargain politely and you'll do well. And don't miss Wat Rong Khun, about twenty minutes away by taxi. Do walk to the nearby temple (just across the field)...an elderly Buddhist nun even unlocked the shrine room for us to see it, and this all happened wordlessly since she didn't speak English and our Thai was non-existent at that point. This was the first leg of our Thai journey and it was a lovely introduction. Pat, Tony's wife, was as pleasant and helpful as Tony. And their daughter Cindy, was a delight. (She would take our orders at dinner time; we loved her!) Homestay Chiang Rai also offers dinner food from a menu, cooked right there on the premises. And here's a shout out to Pat, who even came right into the bus station with us to ensure that we were able to secure bus tickets, since it was New Year's Eve and the busses could have been completely full. I thank both Tony and Pat for being exquisite hosts and for all that they did to make our stay a very pleasant one. |

| My wife and I have stayed here twice and love the place. While only 10 minutes or so from the City (a few kilometers outside) it is really already in the countryside with a great view over rice fields to a spectacular-looking temple at the foot of a massive karst. Just the type of stuff one goes to Thailand to see. Tooney (Dutch husband) and Paed (Thai wife) are great hosts, and it's fun just to hang out on their patio where Paed can whip up a meal to go with a frosty Chang or Leo beer at any time of the day. Tooney and Paed also can give good recommendations on where to eat outside, sights to take in and everything else you'll need to know about the area. We have been coming to Chiang Rai for years, have tried a lot of the hotels and guesthouses, and will only stay with Tooney and Paed from here on in |

| Due to the current flood disaster in central Thailand, Chiang Rai was an unexpected stop on our itinerary but one we are really glad we made. It's a lovely bit of Thailand and staying at Homestay-Chiang Rai just confirmed the general positive feeling we had of this area. It's a small guesthouse, a short ride out of town in the middle of ricefields. Hosts Phaet and Toony have created a home away from home. Toony was away during the period we were there, but his wife Phaet made us feel very welcome and she took good care of our family. Our garden room was big enough and comfortable with a bunk bed for our young sons. There's a nice swimming pool, free wifi, good home cooked food, an enjoyable outside sitting and dining area, ideal for evening talks. It didn't disturb us staying outside the city center. Phaet could give us a lift to town or it was just a short, not that expensive, tuk tuk ride away. Bottom line, if you like a personal and sympathetic approach, we would really recommend this guesthouse. It's a great place to stay, especially with kids |

“We had a really great time here, lovely people” Reviewed July 31, 2011 NEW 1person found this review helpfulThis place with Toony and Phaet is very nice. With view on the ricefield, close to a nice temple, very nice swimming pool and very good food. But the best are the people, the manager Toony (who is originally dutch) and his wife Phaet. Really lovely people, helping you with everything you want, bringing you to the place in town where you want to go and arranging nice trips to a lot of places around chiangrai. Nice place for families and for couples. Dont doubt, just go here!!!! “A wonderful holiday!” Reviewed July 28, 2011 NEW 1person found this review helpfulThanks so much Tony and Pat for a great stay. We were traveling with 3 kids under 5 and had such a nice time due to the hospitality we experienced at this homestay. The location is serene and beautiful. Lovely walks to be had. We were in the garden suite which was more than comfortable. The kids had a great time in the pool and particularly enjoyed playing with Tony and Pat's lovely children. The food was also excellent! We felt so looked after and Pat even sent us off to the airport with sandwiches for the kids. Thanks. Stayed July 2011 |

“a beautiful piece of heaven!” Reviewed July 2, 2011 5people found this review helpfulThe owner, Tony, picked me up and brought me to the homestay. His wife Phat (defenitely the best cook I met in Thailand) gave me a warm welcome and showed me around and for me this place was a little paradise, so peaceful... The rooms, beautiful. The shower, the bed... I slept all night without waking up. The view is amazing.. You can see the temple and hear the monks say their prayers.. The garden, the flowers....Tony and Phat are so kind and warm and they do everything to make you feel at home. I was only able to stay one night, cause my travel went on... But I defenitely return to this amazing place! Stayed June 2011, traveled solo |

“Perfect place to stay” Reviewed May 24, 2011 3people found this review helpfulWe booked originally for 2 nights but ended up staying for 3 because it was such a great place stay!!! The rooms are beautiful and you can have a decent hot shower. The bed was so comfortable in the bungalow; and it was great to be able to take a dip in the swimming pool every afternoon. The breakfast was so yummy- we had pancakes every day! We were made to feel very welcomed by everyone & Toony was really helpful with giving us ideas of what to do each day. We were even able to hire a scooter from them which made life alot easier. We'll definitely be returning! Thanks for a great stay!!!!! Stayed May 2011 |

“Wonderful place to stay in Chiang Rai” Reviewed April 8, 2011 3people found this review helpfulWe very much enjoyed our stay with Tony and Phat and their family and helpers. They were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. The children are delightful and treated us to some traditional Thai dancing. We stayed in the bungalow and the bed was unbelievably comfy. The room was spacious and very clean, with a well stocked bar fridge. The grounds are lovely there is a large swimming pool. It's quite close to the city, but just enough away to enjoy the peace of that area. We spent a lot of time walking around the immediate area and visiting the temple and lakes. The monks sing twice a day and it was a very special experience hearing them from our room. The restaurant is open throughout the day and evening and the meals are generous and delicious. Just around the corner is an Australian bar where you can experience a bit of Aussie flavour and Sunday lunch is on the house when you buy drinks. I highly recommend this homestay and will stay again if we come back to Chiang Rai. Stayed March 2011, traveled as a couple |

“Home away from home in every aspect!” Reviewed March 26, 2011 2people found this review helpfulWe arrived at this hotel after enduring two delayed flights - arriving at approximately 2200 hours. The cab driver picked us up at the airport ( included in the stay) and promptly took us to Homestay. We explained to Chai ( the cab driver) that we were very hungry and had not eaten since morning breakfast. He called Toony and had me talk to him. He asked if sandwiches were fine for us which would have been fantastic. We needed something. Upon arrival, Phaet and staff were in the kitchen and prepared us fantastic full meal of Thai dishes - the food was exceptional, the service outstanding. We were provided with our welcome drink upon arrival and were briefed by the owner of the accomodation. The beds felt comfy and the rooms very clean. Lots of room for what we needed in a nice family environment. Breakfast was available as promised and choices were great. The food was plentiful, unable to eat all that was provided and this continued for the duration of our stay of 6 days. The coffee was good and plentiful - not to be taken for granted in Thailand. The yards were beautiful and the staff were constantly maintaining it. No trash, and very well cared for. The pool was the best we encountered in our stay. Refreshing, large and clean. Pool side chairs were comfy with fresh towels as needed. Toony was always available to take us to town for whatever the reason, there were scooters available right on the yard and he was very helpful to guide us in the right direction. The location was approx. 6 km from town. This was great in terms of accessing the white temple, the waterfall, elephant trekking and really anything you wanted to see if you are ok with using the scooters. THe traffic is minimal here compared to other parts of Thailand so the scooter use was no problem. They were excellent with booking taxi's for treks and Chai was always early - on time and we never worried about a thing. The staff - OUTSTANDING - accomodating and always cleaned the room when they knew we would not be in them. Another family with children arrived when we were there and we thought it may seem quite busy as this is a small resort. As we were travelling with adults, and they arrived with children we were not sure how it would work out. It was fantastic as we seemed to adjust our meals, and treks around each other. Excellent resort, family friendly, great food, excellent personalized service - would definately stay here again. Thanks to all of you for making the end of our Thailand experience outstanding! Grote klasse dus!!! Stayed May 2011, traveled as a couple Armarettoo Valburg Netherlands. |
